How to manage stress
Before discussing about how to manage stress let us first know what is stress and what are its signs and consequences.
Stress: it is a feeling of strain and pressure. Basically we can say that it is a mental pain which destroy a human from inside. It is as dangerous as a physical pain. If proper care is not taken then it can cause heavy damage.
Let us first discuss what are the signs of stress:
There are thousands of people in the world that does even know that they are stressed. Some are of those type that type does not accept that they are stressed and the last one are those that know they are stressed but do nothing to cope with it.
Here are some signs of stress:
Everyone reacts to stress differently. However, some common signs and symptoms includes:
- Frequent headaches.
- Cold or sweaty hands and feet.
- Frequent heartburn, stomach pain, or nausea.
- Panic attacks.
- Excessive sleeping, or insomnia.
- Persistent difficulty concentrating.
- Obsessive or compulsive behaviors.
- Social withdrawal or isolation.
- Constant fatigue.
- Irritability and angry episodes.
- Significant weight gain or loss.
- Consistent feelings of being overwhelmed or overloaded.
Now the question arises how to manage stress.
So there are many ways through you can manage stress:
- Identify the problem: The first thing which you have to identify is that what is the cause of stress if you can find the problem only then its solution can found. Cause can be anything work load, relationship, money, failure etc.
- Solve the problem: If it is in your reach to solve the problem then try to solve it as soon as possible. If the problem is not solvable then just leave the things to god all follow the below methods to manage stress.
- Time management: It is one of the best ways to reduce stress. Time is a very precious thing for everyone and now a day it is the major cause of stress. Shortage of time lead to stress this basically occur when you have to meet a deadline. So manage your time effectively so that you can become stress free as time is money.
- Exercise: Working outregularly is one of the best ways to relax your body and mind. Plus, exercise will improve your mood and health. But it depends on you how much time you spent doing exercise. Generally, you have to do at least 30 min exercise a day. This will keep you happy and healthy
- Pranayama: Stopping and taking a few deep breaths can take the pressure off you right away. You’ll be surprised how much better you feel once you get good at it. Just follow these 5 steps:
Step 1. Sit in a comfortable position with your hands in your lap and your feet on the floor. Or you can lie down.
Step 2. Close your eyes.
Step 3. Imagine yourself in a relaxing place. It can be on the beach, in a beautiful field of grass, or anywhere that gives you a peaceful feeling.
Step 4. Slowly take deep breaths in and out.
Step 5. Do this for 5 to 10 minutes at a time.
- Eat healthy: As it is well said that eat healthy and live healthy. It is correct eating a regular, well-balanced diet will help you feel better in general. It may also make you feel happy. Your meals should be full of vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and lean protein for energy. And don’t skip any meal. It’s not good for you and can put you in a bad mood, which can actually increase your stress.
- Take a break: The cause of stress can be continuous working. It might be possible that you are bored from your daily same routine this make you in bad mood. So have a break and rest for some time. Restful things you can do include:
- Tai chi
- Listening to your favourite music
- Spending time in nature
- Hobbies: You need to set some time for things you enjoy. Try to do something every day that makes you feel good, and it will help relieve your stress. It doesn’t have to be a ton of time — even 15 to 20 minutes will do. Relaxing hobbies include things like:
- Doing an art project
- Playing golf
- Watching a movie
- Doing puzzles
- Playing cards and board games
- Self-introspection: If things are bothering you, talking about them can help lower your stress. You can talk to family members, friends, a trusted clergyman, your doctor, or a therapist. Out of all these self-talk is the best because no one knows you better then yourself. It should be positive and not negative.
- Go Easy On Yourself: Don’t be so hard to yourself. Accept that you can’t do things perfectly no matter how hard you try. You also can’t control everything in your life. So do yourself a favour and stop thinking you can do so much. And don’t forget to keep up your sense of humour.
- Laughter: As it is said that laughter is a best medicine. Yes, it is. Just smile when you look at a problem and then you will find that the problem is getting small in front of you.
- Leave the problem: There are thousands of problem in your life which you cannot solve. So just move on. Don’t waste your time on a small problem. But try hard at least once to solve the problem.
- Reduce caffeine and sugar: The temporary “highs” caffeine and sugar provide often end in with a crash in mood and energy. By reducing the amount of coffee, soft drinks, chocolate, and sugar snacks in your diet, you’ll feel more relaxed and you’ll sleep better.
- Avoid alcohol, cigarettes and drug: Self-medicating with alcohol or drugs may provide an easy escape from stress, but the relief is only temporary. Don’t avoid or mask the issue at hand; deal with problems head on and with a clear mind.
- Get enough sleep: Adequate sleep fuels your mind, as well as your body. Feeling tired will increase your stress because it may cause you to think irrationally.
